Restricting a Discussion Topic to Groups

  1. Go to the Discussions page, click New, and then "New Topic."

  2. Click "Availability Dates & Conditions," located on the upper right-hand side of the page.

  3. From that menu, click on "Manage Restrictions," located at the bottom of Availability Dates & Conditions.

The next section will go over the two different options for Group Restrictions that appear after clicking on "Manage Restrictions."

Choosing a Group Restriction

  1. After clicking "Manage Restrictions," the two different options will appear in a pop-up window.

  2. The first option is "Restrict topic." This allows for multiple different groups or entire categories to view a topic and all of its threads. For example, if Groups 1 and 2 from a category are selected, both of those Groups would be able to access it and participate.

  3. The other option is "Restrict topic and separate the threads." This allows for all the groups in a category to have access to each selected topic, but they will only be able to see and respond to threads from their own group. This allows for multiple groups to see the same topic, but keeps the discussion separated by group. This restriction type is the more common of the two.

  4. After choosing a Group restriction, click Add at the bottom of the window. Then, click Save and Close at the bottom-left of the page.
