The following article details the steps for adjusting pop-up settings within web browsers.
Please note that the course layout, steps, and screenshots shown below may differ slightly for your campus.
Pop-ups must be enabled for SUNY websites within your web browser in order for sites like Brightspace to function properly. The following directions will illustrate how to enable pop-ups for SUNY sites in supported web browsers.
Google Chrome
- Click the Customize and Control Google Chrome button in the top right corner of the browser, and then click Settings.

- Find and select Privacy and security, and then select Site Settings.

- Find and select Pop-ups and redirects.

- Click the Add button to the right of the option "Allowed to send pop-ups and use redirects".

- Enter "suny.edu", without the quotations, and click Add.

- To ensure changes are saved, refresh any tabs that were previously open in Chrome. It may be also be necessary for you to close and then reopen your Chrome browser.

Mozilla Firefox
- Click the Open Application Menu button in the top right corner of the browser, and then click Settings.

- Find and select Privacy and security, and then scroll down and click Exceptions... to the right of "Block pop-ups and third-party redirects".

- Add suny.edu to the "Address of website box", then click Allow. Then click Save Changes.

- To ensure changes are saved, refresh any tabs that were previously open in Firefox. It may be also be necessary for you to close and then reopen your Firefox browser.

Safari
- With Safari open, find and click on Safari in the upper left corner of the screen within the menu bar, and then click on Settings.
- Select Websites, and then find and select Pop-up Windows on the left-hand side of the Settings menu.
- Find the option titled "When visiting other websites" in the lower right-hand corner of the Settings menu. Select Allow for that setting.
- Additionally, you might see Brightspace or other SUNY websites appear under the "Currently Open Websites" section. If you do, change the option for those sites to Allow.
- To ensure changes are saved, refresh any tabs that were previously open in Safari. It may be also be necessary for you to close and then reopen your Safari browser.

Microsoft Edge
- Click the Settings and more button in the top right corner of the browser, and then click Settings.

- Find and click on Privacy, search, and services, and then click on Site Permissions.

- Find and click on All Permissions.

- Find and click on Pop-ups and redirects.

- Click on the Add site button to the right of "Allowed to send pop-ups and use redirects."

- Input suny.edu into the text box, and click Add.

- To ensure changes are saved, refresh any tabs that were previously open in Edge. It may be also be necessary for you to close and then reopen your Edge browser.
