Emailing Through the Course Classlist


The following article details how to send emails through the course Classlist.

 

Please note that the course layout, steps, and screenshots shown below may differ slightly for your campus.

In addition to the general Brightspace Email tool, instructors can email their full roster, specific students from their roster, or individual students through the Classlist tool in a course.

Emailing the course Classlist

  1. To send an email to all students in your course, navigate to Classlist. Note that some campuses have named this tool Roster
     
  2. Click the option Email Classlist

     
  3. On the Email Classlist page you will see a list of the students in your course who will be the recipients of the email. Click Send Email in the bottom left to begin composing your message.

     
  4. In the Compose New Message window you will see your students listed in the Bcc line. Enter a subject and type your message in the text box. Optionally you can add attachments, record video or audio, or attach existing course documents using the options below the text box. Once you are finished, click Send in the bottom left to send the email. If you would like to save the message as a draft, you can instead choose Save as Draft and locate it under Drafts in your Brightspace Email tool at a later time.

Emailing specific students

  1. To send an email to specific students in your course, navigate to Classlist. Note that some campuses have named this tool Roster.
     
  2. Click the box to the left of each student's name you would like to email and click Email.

     
  3. In the Compose New Message window you will see your students listed in the Bcc line. Enter a subject and type your message in the text box. Optionally you can add attachments, record video or audio, or attach existing course documents using the options below the text box. Once you are finished, click Send in the bottom left to send the email. If you would like to save the message as a draft, you can instead choose Save as Draft and locate it under Drafts in your Brightspace Email tool at a later time.

Emailing an individual student

  1. To send an email to an individual student in your course, navigate to Classlist. Note that some campuses have named this tool Roster.
     
  2. The same steps to email specific students in a course can be followed to email an individual student. Alternatively, locate the student you would like to email. Click the chevron next to the their name and choose Send Email.

     
  3. In the Compose New Message window you will see your students listed in the Bcc line. Enter a subject and type your message in the text box. Optionally you can add attachments, record video or audio, or attach existing course documents using the options below the text box. Once you are finished, click Send in the bottom left to send the email. If you would like to save the message as a draft, you can instead choose Save as Draft and locate it under Drafts in your Brightspace Email tool at a later time.
