Adjusting Javascript Settings

The following article details the steps for enabling JavaScript in your browser.

Please note that the course layout, steps, and screenshots shown below may differ slightly for your campus.


JavaScript must be enabled in your web browser for Brightspace to function properly. The following directions will illustrate how to adjust your browser settings to enable JavaScript for supported web browsers.


Google Chrome

  1. Click the Customize and Control Google Chrome button in the top right corner of the browserand then click Settings.
    Click on Customize and control Google Chrome, then click Settings
  2. Find and select Privacy and Security, and then select Site Settings.
    Click Privacy and Security, and then click Site Settings.
  3. Scroll down to find and click on the Javascript options under "Content".
    Scroll down to find and select Javascript under the Content options
  4. Click on the option titled Sites can use JavaScript
    Click the Sites can use Javascript option.
  5. To ensure changes are saved, refresh any tabs that were previously open in Chrome. It may be also be necessary for you to close and then reopen your Chrome browser.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. JavaScript is enabled in Firefox by default. If you are having issues with JavaScript in Brightspace while using Firefox, please try disabling any extensions that you have added to Firefox.
    • For more advanced or technically-inclined individuals, you can find more information about JavaScript settings in Firefox on Firefox's own website here.

Safari

  1. With Safari open, find and click on Safari in the upper left corner of the screen within the menu bar, and then click on Settings.
     
  2. Find and click Privacy, and then check the box for the Enable JavaScript setting.
     
  3. To ensure changes are saved, refresh any tabs that were previously open in Safari. It may be also be necessary for you to close and then reopen your Safari browser.

Microsoft Edge

  1. Click the Settings and more button in the top right corner of the browser, and then click Settings.

  2. Find and click on Privacy, search, and services, and then click on Site Permissions.
    Click on Privacy, search, and services, and then click on Site Permissions.
  3. Find and click on All Permissions.
    Click on All Permissions.
  4. Find and click on JavaScript.
    Find and click on JavaScript.
  5. Ensure that JavaScript is set to Allowed. If it is not enabled (the button is showing on the right side of the bar), click on the button on the right to enable the setting.
    Ensure that the JavaScript option is enabled. If it is not, click on the button toggle to enable the setting.
  6. To ensure changes are saved, refresh any tabs that were previously open in Edge. It may be also be necessary for you to close and then reopen your Edge browser.
