Body
The following article details how to identify and submit to different types of assignments.
Please note that the course layout, steps, and screenshots shown below may differ slightly for your campus.
Depending on how your instructor has set up the assignment, submitting your work can have slightly different steps. The two types of assignments are "Text Submission" and "File Submission", with "Text Submission" only allowing typed text in a box, and "File Submission" requiring an attached file.
Note: You can usually find your assignments listed within a module under Content in your course, or within the Assignments area found in the course's Navbar.
Text Submissions
- Click on the assignment to begin your submission. You can identify a Text Submission type assignment by reviewing the details below the bold header that says "Submit" or "Submit Assignment".
- Your instructor may have instructions for the assignment written in for you to review. You can find these under "Show/Hide Assignment Information" along with any important dates.
- The box labeled "Text Submission" allows you to type in your work for an assignment, and features text editing and formatting options in a row of buttons above the text box you can use to format your work.
- Certain kinds of media (video notes, web images, YouTube videos) can still be submitted in a "Text Submission" assignment using the Insert Stuff button on that row of buttons.
- Once you have finalized your work, click the Submit button near the bottom of the page to send your work to your instructor.

File Submissions
- Click on the assignment to begin your submission. You can identify a File Submission type assignment by reviewing the details below the bold header that says "Submit" or "Submit Assignment". A "File Submission" type assignment will have a line saying "(0) file(s) to submit". The number here will update to reflect how many attachments you have made on your pending submission.
- Your instructor may have instructions for the assignment written in for you to review. You can find these under "Show/Hide Assignment Information" along with any important dates.
- File submissions have two parts: the area where you locate and attach your work in the form of a file, and a "Comments" box below this.
- Click the Add a File button, then "My Computer", and finally "Upload" to get to a screen where you can browse your computer or other device's files for attachments. Certain other uploading options may be available to you, such as uploading directly from a cloud service. You can check which options are available to use when you click Add a File but before selecting "My Computer".
- Recording video or audio can be done directly through your assignment page without having to submit a separate file using the Record Video or Record Audio buttons. You will need a webcam and microphone, or just a microphone for Audio, to use these.
- Once you have finalized your work, click the Submit button near the bottom of the page to send your work to your instructor.
