Grading and Feedback for Assignments

The following article details the steps for publishing grades and feedback for student assignment submissions.

 

Please note that the course layout, steps, and screenshots shown below may differ slightly for your campus.

Instructors can view, grade, and leave feedback for student submissions through both the Assignments and Grade Book areas of their Brightspace course.

Publishing Grades and Feedback - Assignments area

  1. Navigate to the "Assignments" area of your course.

  2. Click the chevron to the right of the assignment you wish to grade, and select "View Submissions."

  3. Click Evaluate for a student you wish to grade and/or leave feedback for.

  4. Click on the name of the submission that you wish to view.

  5. You will now be able to view the student's assignment submission. On this screen, you may provide an overall grade, leave overall text feedback for the assignment, as well as use the various in-line grading options along the top tool bar on the left to mark up a student's assignment submission.   6. When finished, click Publish to save and publish the student's grades.

Note: If you wish to save your work so far, but not publish the grade and feedback to the student yet, you may instead use Save Draft.

Publishing Grades and Feedback - Grade book

  1. Access the Grade Book area in your course, and locate the grade item for the assignment in question.

  2. Find and click on the "View submissions in a new window" icon (View Student Preview's submissions in a new window) to access a student's submissions.

  3. Click on the name of the submission that you wish to view.

  4. You will now be able to view the student's assignment submission. On this screen, you may provide an overall grade, leave overall text feedback for the assignment, as well as use the various in-line grading options along the top tool bar on the left to mark up a student's assignment submission.

  5. When finished, click Publish to save and publish the student's grades.
